Meet Gabriel M. Hayek, DMD, MD

About Gabriel Hayek, DMD, MD

Dr. Gabriel Hayek is a lifelong New Englander, born and raised in Rhode Island.

Dr. Hayek's professional interests lie in the full spectrum of craniomaxillofacial surgery including cleft lip and palate; endoscopic and open craniosynostosis correction; distraction osteogenesis of the mandible, midface, and skull; vascular malformations; microtia reconstruction; benign pediatric facial pathology; complex congenital facial differences, and corrective jaw surgery.

Dr. Hayek has a particular interest in pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery. Driven by a desire to make a difference in the lives of these young patients, Dr. Hayek finds immense joy in providing them with the very best care possible. He is committed to offering compassionate and exceptional treatment to help improve their quality of life.

In addition to pediatric craniomaxillofacial surgery, Dr. Hayek treats the full spectrum of oral and maxillofacial conditions including third molars and other extractions, dental implantology, temporomandibular joint surgery, benign maxillofacial pathology, obstructive sleep apnea, and facial trauma.

Education & Residency

Dr. Hayek received his BS in chemistry from Trinity College in Hartford, CT, before receiving his DMD from Tufts University in Boston, MA. Dr. Hayek returned to the Hartford region, where he received his MD, completed a two-year certificate in General Surgery, and his residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from the University of Connecticut.

Dr. Hayek was selected for one of the few positions in the country to complete a fellowship in Pediatric Cleft and Craniofacial Surgery at El Paso Children's Hospital in Texas. The fellowship, under the guidance of Dr. David Yates, Dr. Vernon Burke, and Dr. Natasha Furchtgott, focused on comprehensive cleft and craniofacial surgery and included monthly cleft lip/palate work at the transnational FEMAP clinic in Juarez, Mexico. A crucial component of the fellowship included training under Dr. David Jimenez, innovator of the minimally invasive endoscopic-assisted craniosynostosis surgery technique. Dr. Hayek is the only fellowship-trained Pediatric Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Connecticut.

Memberships

Dr. Hayek is a member of the Cleft and Craniofacial Team at Connecticut Children's Medical Center and an active member of the Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Trauma Surgery teams at Connecticut Children's Medical Center and Hartford Hospital. He is on the teaching faculty at the University of Connecticut's Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program.

Dr. Hayek's professional organizations include membership in the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the American Dental Association, and the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Hobbies & Interests

Outside the office, Dr. Hayek is a passionate baseball fan and enjoys cheering on the Red Sox. As a lifelong New Englander, he is thrilled to be back in the region.
