Joseph F. Piecuch, D.M.D., M.D. is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts (B.A., 1965), Harvard University (D.M.D., 1969) and the University of Washington (M.D., 1975). Dr. Piecuch completed a Dental Internship at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center, San Antonio, and a General Surgery Internship at the University of Washington. His Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Washington in Seattle included six months at the Gemeente Ziekenhuis, Arnhem, The Netherlands.
Dr.Piecuch is Clinical Professor of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington. At Hartford Hospital, he served eight years as Director of the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, twelve years as Coordinator of Resident Education in his field, and fifteen years on the Craniofacial Trauma Team. His research interests include bone grafting and craniofacial reconstructive surgery. He lectures frequently, has published over fifty scientific articles and textbook chapters, and is the Editor of two review textbooks.
Dr. Piecuch is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and has completed a six year term as an Examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. He currently serves as Associate Editor for Reconstructive Surgery for the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He also is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, is President of the Connecticut Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and is Past President of the Hartford Dental Society. He also currently serves as District I (New England / New York) Trustee of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Piecuch and his wife, Michele, reside in Simsbury. They have two sons, Michael and Gregory. Dr. Piecuch served as a Youth Soccer Coach for over fifteen years. He is a CPR Instructor and is certified in ACLS and ATLS.
